When Is Ramadan 2027 In Australia?

There is a certain feeling when Ramadan begins to draw near.

The dates start being checked. Mosques prepare for Tarawih, and quietly, we begin thinking about what we want this Ramdan to look like.

Ramadan 2027 in Australia is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday, 7 February 2027 in Australia, with the first day of fasting on Monday, 8 February 2027

Dates remain subject to confirmation according to the Islamic lunar calendar and moon sighting.

The night before the first fast marks the beginning of something Muslims wait for all year. The first night of Tarawih followed by the first suhoor and by sunset the next day the first Iftar of Ramadan.

Why Can The Ramadan Date Change?

Ramadan does not follow a fixed date on the Australian calendar.

The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, with each month lasting 29 or 30 days. As a result, Ramadan generally begins around 10 to 11 days earlier each Gregorian year.

This is why we can estimate Ramadan dates well in advance, while the official beginning is confirmed closer to the month.

Different Australian Muslim communities may also follow different methods for determining the start of Ramadan, so announcements can occasionally vary by a day.

What Is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and one of the most sacred times of the year for Muslims.

From dawn until sunset, Muslims who are able to fast abstain from food and drink. But the month asks us to practice far more than hunger.

Ramadan is a time to slow down and return to what matters.

Prayer becomes more intentional. The Qur’an is opened more often. Iftar brings people around the same table, while charity reminds us to look beyond it.

For thirty precious days, the rhythm of everyday life shifts and with it comes an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Allah (SWT).

Preparing For Ramadan

The best Ramadan preparations often begin before the first fast.

It might mean setting a Qur’an goal, preparing your prayer routine, planning meals ahead of time or simply deciding what you would like to leave behind and what you hope to carry forward.

It is also a good time to think about your charitable giving.

Many Muslims choose Ramadan to give Zakat and Sadaqah, provide iftar meals, support families with food and contribute to causes close to their hearts.

A little planning beforehand can leave more space during Ramadan for what the month is truly about: worship, reflection and generosity.

Make Your Ramadan Giving Count

For some of us, Ramadan means a full table waiting at sunset.

For others, the uncertainty of the next meal continues even after the fast is broken.

Through Penny Appeal your Ramadan giving can support people experiencing poverty, displacement and hardship through food, emergency relief and other forms of ongoing support.

Whether it is your Zakat, Sadaqah or another act of generosity, Ramadan gives us an opportunity to turn worship into something another family can feel.
