The Crisis in Lebanon Is Far From Over

More than one million people were displaced inside Lebanon at the height of the latest conflict. As of August 2026, around 360,000 people remain displaced, including thousands still living in collective shelters.

Around 860,000 people have returned to their areas of origin, but returning home does not necessarily mean returning to normal life.

Many families are finding damaged or destroyed homes, debris, unexploded ordnance and essential services that are still strained or unavailable. More than 700,000 people have been affected by damage to water infrastructure in parts of southern Lebanon.

The security situation also remains fragile. Despite ceasefire arrangements, Israeli airstrikes have continued in southern Lebanon, causing new displacement and making it harder for some families to return safely.

At the same time, Lebanon’s long-running economic crisis continues to make food and basic necessities harder to afford.

Around 1.24 million people, nearly one in four, are facing acute food insecurity, driven by conflict, displacement, rising prices, damaged livelihoods and economic pressure.

Families Are Returning to Communities That Need to Be Rebuilt

Lebanon is not yet in a post-crisis phase.

Homes, schools, health facilities, agricultural land, water systems and electricity networks have all been damaged in conflict-affected areas. In southern Lebanon and the Bekaa, insecurity, military activity and explosive remnants of war continue to make recovery more difficult.
