Yemen Emergency
More Than a Decade of Crisis Has Left Millions Struggling to Survive
For families across Yemen, this emergency has lasted for years.
Prolonged armed conflict and economic collapse have devastated livelihoods, displaced millions and weakened the systems people depend on for food, clean water and healthcare. Today, around 19.7 million people need humanitarian assistance, including approximately 15 million women and children.
Hunger is becoming even more severe. Yemen is now considered one of the world’s most critical hunger hotspots, with millions facing crisis or emergency levels of food insecurity in 2026.
Your donation can help provide food, clean water and other essential support to families living through one of the world’s longest humanitarian emergencies.
Help Families in Yemen
Yemen’s Crisis Is Deepening
More than ten years of crisis have changed everyday life across Yemen.
Families have lost incomes and livelihoods. Food and fuel have become increasingly difficult to afford. Millions have been displaced from their homes, while hospitals and other essential services struggle to function.
For many families, there is no single problem to overcome.
A parent may be trying to find enough food while also paying for clean water. A child suffering from malnutrition may need treatment from a health facility struggling with shortages of medicines, staff or electricity.
Around 40% of Yemen’s health facilities are partially functioning or completely out of service, while millions of people need water, sanitation and hygiene assistance.
Hunger Is Pushing Families Further
Yemen is facing a worsening hunger crisis.
In government-controlled areas alone, around 5.4 million people are projected to face acute food insecurity between June and September 2026, including 1.5 million people facing emergency levels of hunger. Conditions are expected to remain severe through the end of the year.
When food becomes unaffordable, families are forced to make impossible calculations.
How many meals can we afford today? Which foods can we go without? Can we pay for medicine and still buy enough to eat?
Children face some of the greatest risks. Malnutrition can affect their growth, health and development long after the immediate hunger has passed.
Provide Emergency Support
What Your Donation Can Provide
Penny Appeal works with partners to provide essential assistance according to the needs of families and conditions on the ground.
Your donation can help provide:
- Food packs and essential food supplies
- Clean and safe water
- Nutrition support
- Medical and healthcare assistance
- Shelter and essential household items
- Support for displaced families
Emergency needs can change, so assistance is directed according to current humanitarian priorities, access and program availability.
Millions Have Been Forced From Home
Around 4.8 million people remain internally displaced across Yemen, many living in camps or temporary accommodation with limited access to basic services.
For families, displacement means much more than changing where they sleep.
It can mean leaving behind a home, work, farmland, belongings and the people they relied on. Families then have to find food, water, shelter and an income somewhere unfamiliar, often with very little to start again.
Some have lived this way for years.
Emergency support helps families meet their immediate needs while their ability to return home or rebuild their lives remains uncertain.
Children Are Growing Up Inside This Crisis
For millions of Yemeni children, this emergency has shaped their entire childhood.
At the beginning of 2026, 10.8 million children needed humanitarian assistance, around 3.2 million were out of school, and widespread malnutrition continued to put young lives at risk.
When a family cannot afford enough food, children eat less.
When healthcare is too far away or unavailable, illnesses that should be treatable can become dangerous.
When a family is displaced, education can be interrupted for months or years.
Supporting families with food, water, healthcare and other essentials helps address the pressures children are living with every day.
