Help Families in Sudan
This crisis reaches into almost every part of daily life.
Families have been forced to flee their homes, often more than once. Markets, farms, hospitals and water systems have been damaged or destroyed. In some areas, insecurity and restrictions make humanitarian assistance extremely difficult to deliver.
For a family caught in this crisis, survival can mean finding somewhere safe to sleep tonight, enough food for their children tomorrow and clean water that will not make them sick.
Even for those who have returned home, there may be little left to return to.
Support the Sudan Emergency
Sudan is one of the world’s most critical hunger hotspots.
Nearly two in every five people are facing crisis levels of hunger or worse. More than five million are experiencing emergency levels of food insecurity, while around 135,000 people face catastrophic hunger.
Behind those figures are families making increasingly difficult choices.
Parents are reducing meals. Food that once lasted a week is being stretched further. Families displaced from farmland or jobs have lost the income and food sources they once relied on.
And when children do not get enough nutritious food for long periods, hunger can become life-threatening.
An estimated 4.2 million children are expected to suffer acute malnutrition in 2026, including more than 825,000 children facing severe acute malnutrition.
But hunger is only one part of what children are living through.
Millions have been displaced. More than eight million school-aged children remain out of school, and disease outbreaks continue to spread among communities with poor access to healthcare, clean water and sanitation.
For many children, war has interrupted the ordinary parts of childhood: eating regular meals, sleeping safely at home, going to school and seeing a doctor when they are sick.
Sudan remains at the centre of one of the world’s largest displacement crises.
Families have fled fighting in Darfur, Kordofan and other parts of the country, sometimes arriving in already overwhelmed towns and displacement sites with little more than what they could carry.
In El Obeid, for example, camps have been pushed beyond capacity as displaced families continue to arrive, placing further pressure on scarce food, fuel and water.
Being displaced does not simply mean losing a house. It can mean losing work, farmland, belongings, community and access to the services a family depended on.

War has damaged hospitals, interrupted supply chains and left millions without reliable healthcare.
At the same time, displacement and limited access to safe water and sanitation have increased the risk of disease. Sudan has faced outbreaks of cholera, malaria, measles, dengue, hepatitis and other illnesses.
A child weakened by hunger is more vulnerable to illness. A family living in an overcrowded displacement site may struggle to find safe water. A treatable condition can become dangerous when the nearest functioning health facility is inaccessible.
Emergency healthcare, nutrition, water and hygiene support can make a critical difference.
As a crisis continues for months and then years, international attention can move elsewhere.
The needs do not.
Families are still being displaced. Children are still going hungry. Communities are still living with damaged water systems, disrupted healthcare and uncertain access to humanitarian assistance.
In June 2026, UNICEF reported a 64% funding gap for its humanitarian response in Sudan, limiting how much assistance could be delivered against the scale of need.
Sudan cannot afford to be forgotten simply because its emergency is no longer new.
