Sadaqah is voluntary charity given for the sake of Allah (SWT). It can be given at any time, in any amount, and directed towards causes that help people facing hardship.
Your Sadaqah can help provide food, clean water, healthcare, emergency relief and other essential support to communities around the world.
What is Sadaqah?
Sadaqah is a voluntary act of charity in Islam. Unlike Zakat, it is not limited to a particular amount, time of year or financial threshold.
It can be as simple as helping someone in need, sharing what you have or contributing towards a cause that brings benefit to others.
For Muslims, Sadaqah is more than a financial donation. It is an opportunity to give sincerely for the sake of Allah (SWT), seek reward and turn generosity into something that can positively affect another person’s life.
When can I give Sadaqah?
Any time! There is no set time for giving Sadaqah. You can give throughout the year, whether in response to an emergency, during Ramadan and Dhul Hijjah, on a Friday, or simply whenever you want to do something good.
There is also no minimum amount. A small donation given sincerely can still contribute towards meaningful support for someone in need.
What can my Sadaqah support?
Your Sadaqah can help support a wide range of humanitarian and development programs, including:
- Food for families experiencing hunger
- Clean and safe drinking water
- Emergency relief following crises and disasters
- Healthcare and essential medical support
- Support for children and vulnerable families
- Long-term projects that help communities build greater stability
Where needs change quickly, flexible Sadaqah can also help us respond where support is needed most.
Sadaqah and Sadaqah Jariyah
While Sadaqah can describe any voluntary act of charity, Sadaqah Jariyah refers to charity that continues bringing benefit over time.
Projects such as water wells, community infrastructure or other lasting initiatives may continue helping people long after the original donation was made.
What is the difference between Sadaqah and Zakat?
Both are important forms of Islamic giving, but they are not the same.
Zakat is an obligatory form of charity for eligible Muslims and is calculated according to specific Islamic rules.
Sadaqah is voluntary. It can be given by anyone, at any time and in any amount.
Make your Sadaqah count
Sometimes the opportunity to help is right in front of us.
A family may need food. A community may be without safe water. People displaced by an emergency may need immediate essentials.
Your Sadaqah can become part of that response.
Give for the sake of Allah (SWT), and help make something better for someone else.
