Healthcare Facility

Improving access to local healthcare in Trincomalee

Trincomalee, Sri Lanka

440 people directly supported, 2,320 indirect beneficiaries

November 2025 – May 2026

Status: Completed ✓

For families in the coastal fishing communities of Pudawaikattu and Maruthankuda, accessing basic medical care once meant travelling long distances by bus.

With donor support, a new primary healthcare centre has been built within the community, giving around 610 families better access to essential healthcare closer to home. The centre includes three consultation rooms and WASH facilities to support everyday patient care.

The project also established WeLEAD, a legally registered 30-member women’s forum that will help oversee the centre’s operation and maintenance, strengthening local ownership of the facility.
