The Crisis

Over 33,000 people disabled. Wheelchairs still blocked. This is deliberate.

Since October 2023, Israel's military assault on Gaza has left over 33,000 people with new disabilities — 56% of them mobility-related. Between 3,000 and 4,000 children have had limbs amputated, making Gaza home to the highest number of child amputees in the world. And while the injuries mount, the tools needed to survive them are being kept out. No rehabilitation equipment has entered Gaza in two years. Wheelchairs, prosthetics, even spare parts and batteries — blocked. Not a single rehabilitation facility in Gaza is fully functional. This is not a logistics problem. It is a policy of denial.

FAQ Background

We work with established local partners who have verified access and distribution networks on the ground in Gaza. They maintain a waiting list of assessed individuals with the most critical mobility needs, and distribute directly to them once supplies arrive.

Mobility is the foundation of everything else - accessing food, reaching medical care, evacuating when necessary. Without it, people are entirely dependent on others for survival. Wheelchairs are also one of the most systematically blocked items: Israel's restrictions on assistive devices have left 83% of people with disabilities in Gaza without the aids they need. We're responding to a documented, specific, urgent gap.

Gaza's economy and supply chains have been devastated. Local markets cannot meet this need - and what little does exist is inaccessible to most people who have been displaced and have no income. The only viable route is external aid through humanitarian channels.

Our partners on the ground maintain a verified waiting list of individuals who have been assessed for need and urgency. Priority is given to those with the most critical mobility needs, including those who cannot access medical care or perform basic functions without one.

The waiting list extends well beyond the 475 urgent cases we are currently fundraising for. Every additional dollar raised goes toward fulfilling more of that list. There is no shortage of need - only of funding.
