The Rohingya of Myanmar are among the world’s most persecuted people suffering constantly from targeted brutal violence as a result of systematic discrimination. Human rights violations and destruction are rife, with women raped, children abused and villages burned to the ground. Hundred’s have been killed and an estimated 123,000 people have fled to neighbouring Bangladesh seeking refuge from the escalating violence and that number to continues to grow daily.
Hundred’s have been killed and an estimated 123,000 people have fled to neighbouring Bangladesh seeking refuge from the escalating violence and that number to continues to grow daily. Those who have safely made it across the border are either injured, ill or lack supplies such as life’s most basic necessities – food, water, clothing and more and the camps do not have sufficient resources to treat the injured or feed the many that haven’t eaten in days.
The situation is constantly changing and escalating. We urgently need your help now!
Penny Appeal has been working in Burma constructing Barracks and Shelter for internally displaced people in Say Tha Mar Gyi Camp near Sittwe Township particularly. This area is, unfortunately, the epicentre of community violence in Arakan – where more than 250,000 civilians have seen food supplies cut off in the latest round of violence.
Over 680 Rohingyan’s have so far benefitted from the construction of these provisions and our team and partners are working on the development and construction of further household shelters for families in Pauk Taw Township as part of our resettlement project.
We are also responding to the crisis by way of providing life-saving aid such as essential food and non-perishable items, water, medical supplies, hygiene packs and shelter for refugees crossing into to Bangladesh alongside our local partners.
